Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, with guidance from the Camp Medical Committee, in consultation with State & County Health Departments, and recommendations from the American Camp Association, Children’s Oncology Camping Association, and the Center for Disease Control, have developed the following safety precautions for all Camp Sessions.
Vaccination Requirements:
The COVID Vaccination is NO LONGER required for Campers but is still strongly recommended (for campers and their families).
We will continue requiring a negative rapid antigen test for all Campers & asking careful screening questions - both done during camper check-in. If anyone is symptomatic at check-in (regardless of a negative COVID test) they will not be able to attend the session and can try for another session.
The COVID vaccination continues to be required for volunteers and staff.
Every volunteer and staff member attending Camp must provide proof of their current COVID-19 vaccination status at the time of camp. Volunteer and staff vaccination status must meet the following requirements:
-
Everyone must receive a Primary Series COVID-19 vaccine defined as the following:
-
Adults ( 18 years old and up):
-
Two doses of Pfizer or Moderna, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
-
The primary series of Pfizer & Moderna includes a third dose for people ages 18 years and older with moderate to severe immunocompromised conditions. This third dose occurs 28 days after the second dose in the primary series.
-
-
-
In addition, those who are eligible will receive a Booster to be considered “up to date”. You are consider “boosted” right after you have received your booster shot.
-
Adults 18 - 49:
-
Those who received Pfizer or Moderna primary series should get a booster dose of either Pfizer or Moderna at least 5 months after completing the primary series.
-
Those who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine should get a booster dose of either Pfizer or Moderna at least 2 months after the first dose of J&J COVID-19 Vaccine. You may get J&J/Janssen in some situations.
-
-
Adults 50+:
-
Those who received Pfizer or Moderna primary series should get TWO booster doses of either Pfizer or Moderna. The first booster least 5 months after completing the primary series. The second booster at least 4 months after the first booster.
-
Those who received Johnson & Johnson primary series should get TWO booster doses of either Pfizer or Moderna. The first booster least 2 months after completing the primary series. The second booster at least 4 months after the first booster.
-
-
-
After your Primary Series & first Booster, all following Boosters (including latest Bivalent booster) are all STRONGLY RECOMMENDED but not required.
*Note: You are considered "up-to-date" if you have completed your primary series but are not yet eligible for a booster (timing wise).*
See Camp's Statement on COVID Protocol Policy here.

NOTE: These guidelines may be updated as the CDC revises its recommendations. Any changes in requirements will be communicated in a timely manner.
Camper Medical Forms:
- PATIENT CAMPERS who are on active treatment OR less than a year off treatment, will be required to have their Medical Form filled out and signed by their Oncologist.
- SIBLINGS and PATIENTS who are more than 1 year off treatment may have their general physician fill out their medical form.
COVID-19 Testing at Camp Check-in:
- All campers, volunteers, and staff will be given an antigen test at the time of arrival to their camp check-in location. Camp will be providing all tests and will have them on-site for each arrival location. Should any individual test positive for COVID-19 at this time, they will not be allowed to attend Camp.
- Campers and staff riding the bus will be tested upon arrival at the bus drop-off location and must test negative before being allowed to board the bus.
- Campers and staff driving to Camp will be tested upon arrival at the campsite and must test negative before being allowed to stay at camp.
Health Screenings:
- We will conduct health screenings (signs of symptoms, temperature checks, etc.) for all Campers, Volunteers, and Staff members at check-in. Anyone showing symptoms will not be able to attend.
Daily Symptom Monitoring:
- We will be monitoring for symptoms (temperature checks, etc.) during each day of the summer sessions. Anyone showing symptoms will be checked and, if necessary, quarantined &/or required to go home.
Camp Session Precautions:
- Masks are no longer required during Camp. Participants may choose to wear masks anytime they want.
- Increased availability and usage of hand sanitizing stations and increased Camp-wide disinfecting and cleaning.
NOTE: These guidelines may be updated as recommendations change from CDC, Camp Medical Committee, and State & County Health Departments. Any changes in requirements will be communicated in a timely manner.
